Olmsted Point, Tenaya Lake, Soda Springs, and Lembert Dome are all located in the Tuolumne Mountains in Yosemite National Park. The following are some of my favorite places to stop along the way from Yosemite Valley to Highway 395. This 45-mile road in the midst of the Colorado Rockies is snowed in during the winter and is not passable in the summer, but it is an adventure all year long. At 9,941 feet above sea level, Tioga Pass is the highest point in the United States. There is no doubt that crossing Tioga Pass is one of the most beautiful routes in the Sierra Nevada. It is the highest point between Yosemite Valley and the eastern part of California. It’s a great way to get an up close look at the South Tufa area of Mono Lake, where you can see tower-like rock formations. Mono Lake Yosemite, located in North America, is one of the oldest lakes in the world, dating back at least 760 000 years. This is an excellent place to stop and listen to the creek sounds while standing under the shade of a massive pine tree. Olmstead Point is more of a scenic area, with spectacular views of Yosemite Valley and Half Dome. The trail, which is lined with lodgepole pine trees, is easily accessible and can be completed in as little as 2 hours. Tenaya Lake is regarded as one of the most accessible lakes along the Tioga Road Pass. The Tioga pass entrance to Yosemite Valley does not require reservations. In Dog Lake, there are no dogs nor does it resemble one. They both have the same elevation and are up to 2.8 miles long at their widest. The Lembert Dome and Dog Lake trails give you a breathtaking view of the Tuolumne Mountains. It is a cold-weather hazard to drive the road through the Tioga Pass, as it is prone to avalanches and other accidents. It is the highest drivable pass in California, reaching a peak of 9943 feet above sea level. The Tioga road pass, which is known as the “Mother Road” in Yosemite National Park, is the park’s eastern entrance. Last year, after record snow and rain that broke the California’s five-year drought, the Tioga Road didn’t re-open until June 29. The road’s opening is something of an annual rite of spring, and is an indication of how much snow the Sierra Nevada received during the winter. It will open to all vehicle traffic at 9 a.m., park officials announced. The road, which closes every winter due to deep snow, has been closed since November. Tioga Road, the fabled route through Yosemite National Park’s scenic high country and the highest-elevation road in California’s state highway system, will re-open to vehicles Monday. ![]()
